ST. LOUIS AAA BLUES & RETURNING TO THE RINK
MAY 19, 2020
We’re happy to announce that after some pretty dark days for youth hockey, that there appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel. Earlier today, St. Louis County Business Leaders introduced a plan that would allow the county to reopen across several sectors, including youth sports through the Resocialization of Sports in the St. Louis Region. This plan was created by leaders in our local healthcare system and could be launched June 15th, 2020, based on success of the current May 18th St. Louis County Government re-opening plan.
The plan involves four phases that will progressively allow a return to normal operation over a period between 2-3 months. As information is ready to share about when and how the AAA Blues will resume phased club programming, we will communicate to all stakeholders via a special “Return to The Rink” page on our website. The Return to the Rink page will contain programming information for the club, as well as helpful information on arena policies, team rules, and progress towards working through each phase of the Resocialization of Sports in the St. Louis Region.
Regardless of what form our Return to the Rink will take and the associated challenges, understand that club operations will follow the rules set before us and we will demand that everyone participating within our programs do the same. To be able to make sure that we are successful in all phases of the County’s plan, we have to respect this process. A setback in this plan could have disastrous consequences for the 2020-21 season. I’m sure we can all agree that the shortterm inconvenience surrounding this summer’s club activities will pay dividends in the form of a sooner return to our normal operations.
Coinciding with our Return to the Rink project, we will also launch our club programming throughout all four phases via our website. Given the new guidance for returning to the rink, we have planned programming for all the phases leading up to club tryouts for the 2020-21 season, and will release those details in the coming days.
While we certainly understand that the AAA Blues returning to the rink isn’t going to solve the real challenges that are facing member families and our communities, getting back on the ice is going to be a great first step toward bringing back one source of joy and pride that we all share. We’re excited to reach June 15th, and continue to appreciate the efforts of everyone committed to helping us get there. In the meantime, if you have any questions, we’d be happy to answer them.
